Pelosi Describes AOC’s Congressional Heft – American Greatness

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi tried to cover over the obvious split within the Democrat caucus between the progressive element of congress and the slightly less progressive element who are better at hiding their true intentions. During an appearance last night on #resistance outlet 60 Minutes, Leslie Stahl whispered sweet nothings into Pelosi’s ear on camera.
“You have these wings — AOC and her group on one side,” Stahl said.
“That’s like five people,” Pelosi interrupted.
Stahl corrected the snarky remark, saying that the “progressive group is more than five.”
“Well, I’m progressive — I’m a progressive, yeah,” Pelosi responded.
This is the second time in the last week Pelosi tried to put the young progressive whipper-snapper AOC in her place. Last Monday in a USA Today story, Pelosi made a reference to AOC’s Twitter followers, the typical millennial metric for power and influence. “While there are people who have a large number of Twitter followers, what’s important is that we have large numbers of votes on the floor of the House,” explained Pelosi.
The progressive caucus is quite large, apparently. I don’t pay attention to it since I consider them all to be progressive but according to the New York Post: “The Congressional Progressive Caucus has 98 members and is the second largest group of Democrats in the Congress. Ocasio-Cortez is one of the group’s most recognizable freshmen members.”
Pelosi also seemed to be slightly delusional about the problem she has on her hands.
On “60 Minutes” Pelosi said her Democrats weren’t fractured by those loud voices on the left.
“By and large, whatever orientation they came to Congress with, they know that we have to hold the center. That we have to … go down the mainstream,” Pelosi said.
When asked by Stahl if they really know that, Pelosi answered in the affirmative.
“They do,” she said.
If the progressive caucus knows “that we have to hold the center” I would hate to see what they would do if they were off the leash. AOC, along with Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar have been lighting fires all over the political landscape. The Democrats won the House back with moderates, not progressives and those progressives are getting tons of ink. Let’s see what happens when those moderates have to answer for the behavior and statement from their progressive colleagues in 2020.
